Cultural Translation. (Rural Provance Guide. :La Provence) :

The foreigner arriving in Provence for the first time is always slightly lost when, after lunch, he find himself wandering alone in deserted villages. The grocer has closed up shop, the plumber has disappeared and the garge man has gone. The baker's is closed and cheese dosen't open again until 4:30 pm. All that remains is the sound of water trickiling from village fountain, the deafening cicada and of course the sweltering heat. What has happened? Has a neutron bomb fallen on the village? Not far off....it is siesta time. The institution is obligatory (and totally free) in most of rural Provance so the best thing for a foreigner to do is to look around for a bench in the shade of a nice olive tree....
